We depend on volunteers
RLT is an all-volunteer, non-profit, community service organization. With nearly 850 acres in town under our stewardship -- over 400 of them our own -- we have lots of ways you can take part in our very satisfying mission.
Let us know and we'll tip you off next time we're assembling a team to clear a trail, install a kiosk, send out a mailing, or dispatch any other task. Fun and camaraderie guaranteed. We'd also love to hear about any specialized skills you could offer in areas such as land management, education, ecology, communications, law, fund-raising or others.

Make a gift of property
Donate real estate
We accept donations of property that has conservation value as well as smaller lots and homes that may be sold to fund future conservation. You can also donate your home and continue to live there.
Donate a conservation easement
Many generous landowners have donated easements on forests and farmland. This means the land will never be developed. Often these donations qualify for a tax deduction.

Stock transfers
If you have stock that has appreciated, donating it to RLT could enable you to avoid paying capital gains tax and gain you an income tax deduction on your gift's full value. That would make it significantly more valuable to you than if you’d sold the stock and donated your after-tax earnings. Donations through your IRA
If you’re over 70½, you may donate up to $100,000 from your IRA to RLT without it being deemed taxable income. Please contact RLT's treasurer, Jonathan Smith, at (802) 660-7086, for more information.

Donor-advised funds
Certain funds, such as Fidelity, Schwab, or BNY Mellon, make it easy to donate directly to RLT. Check with your fund and if you have any questions please contact RLT's treasurer, Jonathan Smith, at (802) 660-7086.
Create a Long-Lasting Legacy

Name RLT as a beneficiary on your financial accounts
A very simple way to make a lasting gift to RLT is by naming "Richmond (VT) Land Trust, Inc." as a beneficiary on the account form for any of your retirement, bank and life insurance accounts.
Include RLT in your will
A gift to "Richmond (VT) Land Trust, Inc." in your will or living trust will cost nothing now but will work long into the future.
Donate to RLT and receive income
With a Charitable Gift Annuity or Charitable Remainder Trust, you benefit from an income tax deduction and receive payments for life.
Provide for your loved ones and RLT
A Charitable Lead Trust makes payments to RLT for a set period after which the principal goes to you or your heirs.
